‘The Strain’ season 2 renewal coming soon, per reports

What's next -For those who have loved what FX and Guillermo del Toro have done with “The Strain,” we’re hearing that you are going to be very happy at some point in the near future.

Per our friends over at Global, the series, which is filmed in Toronto, will be back for another season. That has not been confirmed yet by the network, but it’s really only a matter of time. The show has performed well in the ratings, and this is despite it being handed a pair of substantial challenges straight from the get-go:

  1. It is on a night that is not traditionally programmed by FX with original series. (Typically, Tuesday-Thursday are the days that the network really likes to run its stuff.)
  2. It has a ton of competition in its timeslot. Just remember here that on the air at around the same time are “Masters of Sex,” “The Leftovers,” and until recently “Halt and Catch Fire.” Those are three other quality shows with adult audiences.

“The Strain” is the sort of show that will probably acquire a greater audience after the fact, and once some start to learn a little more about it being out there. While the broadcast model is to get huge ratings straight out of the gate, for cable shows it is more along the lines of just trying to get your show an okay audience, and then use repeats, streaming services, and critical acclaim to get more people watching by the time you come back. This is what “Breaking Bad,” “Sons of Anarchy,” and “Mad Men” have all used to their advantage over the years.
