‘The Bridge’ season 2, episode 5 reaction: Demian Bichir on Marco’s surprising move
Obviously, we start this article pertaining to “The Bridge” with a major warning: Stop reading now if you want to avoid spoilers!
Now that we’ve said that, have you caught your breath yet? Last night’s episode “Eye of the Deep” was quite possibly the darkest episode of the entire series to date, and it also further shows just how far Marco Ruiz is willing to go in order to avenge the death of his son Gus.
But, is he really done tormenting David now? This is what we were curious about after watching last night’s episode, since we initially interpreted this as evidence that Marco had more terrible things planned for David in the future. However, it may not necessarily be the case. Speaking to TV Guide after the episode aired, Demian Bichir had the following to say, which makes us think that his torment of the character may be over:
“[The scene] tells you everything about his nature … Marco’s a good person. He’s a good human being. And although he has this commitment to honor the life of his son, the death of his son, he knows that if he crosses that line he will become exactly the same person as the other guy. He will be another type of angry David Tate.”
In the end, we do very much hope that the majority of this is true. We want to think that Marco is a good person, and that was one of our issues with his indiscretions in the first part of the season. We know that he’s flawed, but want to still be able to root for him. If he continued to act like The Mountain to David and gouge eyes left and right, we may not be able to do that.
