‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 2 spoilers: A moment of historical significance
So much of the time when we discuss “Sleepy Hollow,” we’re going on and on about a show that features many dead people, horsemen of the Apocalypse, and some sort of demon named Moloch crawling around and causing all sorts of problems.
Thanks to all of this, we sometimes do not give the recognition needed to some other fascinating things that the show does, including the fish-out-of-water atmosphere that it paints perfectly for Ichabod Crane. This is a man witnessing modern culture one day at a time, and speaking to TVLine, executive producer Mark Goffman explains that there is a significant moment that happens for the character in particular at around the time of the midterm elections:
“What I like about this moment is it’s special for both of them … Crane, seeing how our society has gotten to the point where [black Americans] can actually vote, and having a point of view about that fact that no one is at the polling station. And also the fact that Abbie can vote. It took two constitutional amendments before Abbie got the right to vote.”
We feel like this has always been a touch subject for the show, since issues of race and gender have to be handled delicately. However, they are important when you look at the 18th-century ideology towards the two demographics, and how far things have come today. These little moments give the show so much more authenticity, and even the slightest bit of this is something that we can certainly appreciate.
New episodes of “Sleepy Hollow” start on Monday, September 22, and in between these moments of historical significance, we can surely also anticipate plenty of comedy. Want some further updates now?
