‘Big Brother 16’ exclusive: Amber Borzotra on Zach, Cody, getting away from the game
Amber Borzotra was one of those people who, going into “Big Brother 16,” we felt like it was pretty easy to imagine her going pretty far so long as she avoided the early “model curse” that tends to send people home week 2. (Paola was the victim instead.)
Unfortunately, she mostly fell victim to being the infatuation of a crazy man in Caleb, and that caused her to be a target for more than any of her other game-moves did. We tried to avoid talking about him too much (mostly because she’s had to receive questions about him constantly the past few days), and got more of her thoughts on her own frustrations about certain moves, Zach’s need for attention, and how she is enjoying getting back out to the country after being in the game.
CarterMatt – Let’s start with this: Do you think that some of the other houseguests are missing out that people like Victoria and Jocasta are threats? If you go up against them, you’re probably going home. They’re like the ultimate pawns.
Amber Borzotra – Honestly, I think I was a pawn the whole time! My [personal] frustration was just with me thinking that people were loyal to me when they [weren’t]. I wish I could change a lot that I did in the game, but I can’t and it’s hard. I haven’t been able to watch any episodes or go back … But I wasn’t expecting it and it was a big shock to me [to go home], but it was a part of the game.
Now that you’re on the outside, who can you say is playing a great game? From our vantage point it’s mostly Derrick and Christine.
Right. I speak with people who say that Derrick’s playing a great game, and Christine’s a name that’s been mentioned [as well]. And Team America, that was [also] a huge shock to me! Also, if they did see me as a physical threat, I’m honored that they sent me home because of that.
Let’s go into that, since Team America has basically been using Zach as a wind-up toy to go out and explode. What do you think about Zach as a player, and that Team America is potentially hurting his game?
Well, Zach does blow up at times, and he waits until all eyes are on him like the center of attention, so everyone will see … My feeling was that I wouldn’t give Zach any sort of reaction because that’s what he was looking for. That’s what everyone is looking for. But I think they’re just using Zach for that reason, to take eyes off of them and the heat off of them … When they’re done with them, it’s time to sent Zach packing. That’s the game, but that is also what could possibly keep Zach in the house.
Was there frustration on your end that thanks to a certain ‘Beast Mode Cowboy,’ you weren’t really able to make some close alliances like people like Cody or others?
Definitely. Cody is an amazing person. I loved him in the house, and that’s somebody I would have wanted to work with [late in the game]. Even when it comes to the girls, I wanted to keep Brittany there because she was on my side, but I feel like I would’ve gotten a lot further [alone] because I didn’t want to join the Bomb Squad. That was something that was out of my control. It was just [like] ‘yeah, we have an alliance,’ and if I didn’t join it, I would’ve been a target just because I knew about it. I wish I didn’t know about it, and that was tough.
Were there things in the house that made you realize that there parts of your life that you maybe took for granted?
I haven’t been on the phone nearly as much since I’ve been home… Since being in the house I’m spending so much more time with my family, and [it’s been really nice] to be back in the country for a little while. I’ve been happy. I didn’t want to go that soon, but I’m happy to be where I am now.
