‘Chicago PD’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Boardwalk Empire’ actor to be Burgess’ new partner

When we saw Atwater promoted at the end of “Chicago PD” season 1 to a higher position, there was an obvious question that came up soon after: Where does this leave Burgess now?

Well, we finally have some sort of an answer to that. Sources confirm that “Boardwalk Empire” actor Brian Geraghty has signed on for the NBC show, and will be a new series regular. As for his role, he will be a new cop by the name of Sean Roman who spends plenty of time working with Burgess.

What is interesting about this casting is that it’s not the first time that he has worked on a Dick Wolf show, with him doing guest spots in the past on both “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: SVU.” However, it’s not necessarily unheard of for the producer to use actors that have appeared on past shows again. It’s just one of those many Easter eggs at the moment that are associated with this franchise.

In the end, we hope that “Chicago PD” just gets the opportunity to tell some other new and exciting shows moving forward. If there is one thing that we are definitely worried about right now, it is merely that there are so many police shows on the air right now, it becomes very different to say or do anything that has not already been done before. The one benefit that this show really has to combat that is “Chicago Fire,” given that while cop shows are all across the board, firefighters are at least somewhat more fresh.
