TV Quick Hits: ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ spoilers; ‘Sharkanado 2′ ratings; John Stamos’ new gig
“Sharknado 2” a ratings storm – Who would have guessed that shark tornadoes would be so very popular?
The ratings are in already for the second movie in Syfy’s “trilogy” all about basically everything ridiculous in the world, and Ian Ziering and Tara Reid managed to significantly improve on the success of the original. This film, which featured dozens of great cameos along with B-movie fun, drew an overall audience of 3.9 million viewers. That is the largest crowd ever for a Syfy TV movie, and well above the 1.4 million who watched the first movie before it started to catch fire and turn into a viral sensation. The 18-49 audience alone for the sequel (1.6 million) was more than the total crowd for the original.
We mostly cite great marketing for this, along with just creating some camp fun that you’re not going to be getting anywhere else this summer.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” casts Jenny Slate – After appearing in another Mike Schur production in “Parks and Recreation,” Slate (per Entertainment Weekly) will appear in the super-funny Fox show as a woman in the mob who Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) spends some time undercover with. This mission is what he has spent most of the summer working on.
“Galavant” gets John Stamos – This fantasy musical is literally one of the coolest things coming as midseason, which we know is funny since we just said “fantasy musical” and “coolest” in the same sentence. Still, it’s now got John Stamos! Per ABC News, he will play a rival to the title character for at least one episode.
In a statement, executive producer Dan Fogelman made it very clear how happy he is to have John on board now:
“We are absolutely thrilled that John Stamos is joining us on the series as Galavant’s longtime rival — a dashing knight who squares off against him once more in a local joust … We’ve wanted John to do an arc on this show since inception.”
