‘The Blacklist’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Weeds’ alum Mary-Louise Parker joins cast

The Blacklist logo any seasonWhile the entire “Blacklist” cast couldn’t be in attendance at Comic-Con this year to promote the show, you did have James Spader being awesome and treated like a god by the attendees of the show’s 6A panel this afternoon.

The biggest news that came out of this event, though, cam via casting. “Weeds” alum Mary-Louise Parker has joined the cast! This is a big coup for NBC, given all of her past awards recognition and her ability to tether between comedy and drama. What we know right now is that her character’s name is Naomi Highland, and she has some deep ties to Raymond Reddington. She will recur throughout season 2, which adds another layer to the mystery.

Since we imagine that the question may already be on your mind, we’ll go ahead and say it: Could this be Liz Keen’s mother? Given that Parker is 49 while Megan Boone is 31, the ages at least would line up enough in the world of TV for this to work. Also, we’re curious about the mother as a possible bait-and-switch reveal given that so much time has been spent talking about whether or not Reddington is Liz’s father.

Of course, this question was not answered at all during the panel, and for Spader, he really feels like what is more interesting is the relationship the two parties have at present. He’s right to a certain extent; whether or not Reddington is Liz’s dad or is responsible for killing Liz’s dad like he did her adopted dad, the truth here is the same that she needs him in order to crack cases for the FBI. She has to just deal with the reality of who this man is now, and what his purpose is for her and the team.

We’ll have more on “The Blacklist” season 2 soon, so stay on the lookout for that.
