‘True Blood’ season 7: Senator not pleased with certain Alexander Skarsgard scene
Who knew that Senator Ted Cruz would get somewhat offended over a scene meant to be a mythical fundraiser for him on “True Blood”? The Texas Republican was referenced in Sunday night’s episode, in particular as Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and Pam (Kristen Bauer van Straten) were present there to find Sarah Newlin’s parents and get a better sense where she was. This led to a bloodbath at the hands of the Yakuza of all people, with countless people being killed. Basically, it was just another day at the office for this show.
Yet, Cruz decided that he would still write some sort of statement about the episode, which you can see over at his Facebook page and also below:
“Of all the places I never thought to be mentioned, HBO’s True Blood vampire show would have to be near the top of the list. Sunday night, they aired a misogynist and profanity-ridden episode where Texas Republicans are murdered attending a ‘Ted Cruz fundraiser.’
“Well, I’m sorry to have lost the vampire vote, but am astonished (and amused) that HBO is suggesting that hard-core leftists are blood-sucking fiends….”
For the most part, we feel like he is actually trying to make a joke / create the same sort of us-versus-them mentality that is so frustrating and annoying about politics (both parties included). However, we do wonder whether or not he has actually seen the show for two reasons:
- Every episode is a “profanity-ridden episode. There’s nothing different about this one. Given how much people in politics cite freedom of speech, why complain about cursing?
- Also, we actually feel like “True Blood” is one of the least misogynist shows out there. There are a number of strong female characters, and the men are often objectified just as much (if not more) than the women.
In the end, at least Cruz doesn’t seem to be blowing this out of proportion to the extent where he thinks the show is trying to call for his assassination or something. We’ve seen some politicians say crazy things sometimes.
