‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: BBC releases rare official photo from filming
We have a policy here at CarterMatt against post set photos from any show on the air, but there is one exception to that rule: Set photos that are officially released by the network, and are ones that they actually want you to see.
This is the case with the attached “Doctor Who” season 8 photo here featuring a Cyberman. This image is meant as an homage of sorts of the classic episode “The Invasion,” and it’s also a pretty nice look at the costume. Can we just say for a moment how happy we are that this series continues to avoid CGI at all cost? It would be so easy for them to run the majority of their work through computers, but they continue to put real actors in costumes for the scenes. It’s one of the reasons why we continue to find this show to be so charming, and also stand out in the midst of all of the other programs that are out there right now.
As for the circumstances surrounding the Cybermen’s return and what this means to Peter Capaldi’s version of The Doctor, that is one of the remaining mysteries. Just know that Steven Moffat still has a variety of tricks very much up his sleeve, and is looking to make the new season premiering on August 23 into one of the most eventful collections of stories to date.
The Cybermen are also not the only iconic villains who are going to be showing up on the show moving forward. You’ll also be seeing an appearance from the Daleks soon.
