‘The Originals’ season 2 spoilers: News on Daniel Gillies’ Elijah, premiere, and more

The Vampire Diaries, Daniel GilliesDespite actually having a couple of episodes already filmed, somehow the cast and crew of “The Originals” have done a very good job at keeping most of the second season under wraps … at least until now, and even with this, we are talking about quotes from the executive producers.

Let’s start with something very important: The title of the premiere. According to TVLine, it will be none other than “Rebirth.” This is fitting in many ways, starting with the feeling of a fresh start, but also having back Mikael into the fold. The premiere is a chance for new stories to be spawned, but also for the cast to deal with some demons from the past.

Meanwhile, one of the stories that you can see play out for most of season 2 is something that may make the Elijah character in particular rather sad, given that it does not quite look like he and Hayley are going to be getting together at any point in the near future. As executive producer Michael Narducci tells the website, he may be caught more (at least in the immediate future) in somewhat of an identity crisis to be something equal to his brother:

“[Hayley] and Klaus are the only two hybrids in existence now, so Elijah will inevitably wonder, ‘Is there a connection between my brother and Hayley that I could never surpass?’ There’s going to be some interesting friction. Ultimately, Elijah is going to have to decide, ‘Do I want to help this girl?’”

The only other thing to remember here is that we’ve never imagined Klaus and Hayley as endgame (and neither have those characters), so how much of this is in Elijah’s head? We’ll just have to wait to find out.
