‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 notes: Allen Leech, Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith, and more
Ready for a little “Downton Abbey” hilarity? Then we are going to start this story with that courtesy of Tom Branson himself in Allen Leech.
See this rather-beautiful photo that we have attached to this article? That is of the pristine Highclere Castle, setting for the show and where many of the upstairs scenes are actually filmed. Leech made sure in a recent tweet to reference what didn’t belong there, and it made us laugh for many reasons:
“Just realised that’s a huge spoiler of a picture! Branson orders massive bed sheet!”
The biggest reason that we are rolling on the floor over this is thanks to the fact that showrunner Julian Fellowes has recently decried the posting of spoilers on social media, and it followed a picture that newcomer Richard E. Grant showed of himself in costume. We like to imagine that this is Leech more or less skewering that controversy, and also just how strict the show is as a whole in regards to spoilers.
Episode submissions – Love the Emmys? “Downton Abbey” must, given all of the love that they have been pulling in from them lately.
Per GoldDerby, the following episodes were submitted by the nominated actors for each individual category. Note that the count here is for the American version of the show, which is slightly different than in Britain.
- Joanne Froggatt – Episode 4×02 (which featured the rape scene with Mr. Green)
- Maggie Smith – Episode 4×08 (otherwise known as the Christmas special)
- Michelle Dockery – Episode 4×01 (which featured Mary in her most forlorn state)
- Jim Carter – Episode 4×01 (where we learned quite a bit about Carson)

I’m hoping for a good season too. My main hopes:
1) Michael Gregson comes back to Edith, marries her, and they raise their daughter (it’d also be nice if they have a second child together and Michael writes a novel)
2) Mary chooses Blake
3) Tom ends his relationship with Bunting and finds a new love interest who is more like Sybil
4) Baby Bates
5) Barrow finds a new love interest while Baxter’s relationship with Molesley grows
6) Daisy goes to her father-in-law’s farm (sad to see her go but I feel it’s where her destiny is)
7) Martha and Harold come back
8) We NEVER EVER see Edna Braithwaite again
