‘Major Crimes’ season 3 spoilers: When art imitates life

Major Crimes -We love it when crime TV shows get a little meta, and put the lens of an episode on something else within the TV universe. One of our favorite episodes of “Psych” to date revolves around the show spoofing “The Bachelorette,” and “Castle” did a great episode during their earlier seasons giving a take on the late-night wars going on between Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno at the time.

Now, “Major Crimes” looks to be doing a cop show within a cop show during one of its upcoming episodes. The installment “Cutting Loose” airing a little later this month is going to revolve around what happens when the star of a crime show ends up becoming at the top of the most-wanted list for murder. Take a look at the short synopsis below:

“Lt. Mike Tao of Major Crimes finds himself doing double duty when the star of the cop show on which he moonlights as a consultant becomes the prime suspect in the murder of his biggest fan.”

The obvious irony with this episode is that there probably are some real-life cops who serve as consultants on “Major Crimes” itself, given that this is how this show and many others manage to keep their authenticity. While writers can do a good job crafting characters and arcs, they still need someone to paint the picture from a realism standpoint.

Obviously it is hard to tell how good an episode will be before watching it, but this one has the potential to be one of our favorites of the entire series.
