‘NCIS’ season 12 spoilers: Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, more to visit ‘New Orleans’

The latest -We had predicted earlier this summer that, despite some legal hangups that existed between “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” thanks to a past lawsuit, there would still be some spin-off possibilities between the flagship show and “NCIS: New Orleans” following the pilot this past spring. This was proven true at the CBS TCA Summer Press Tour event on Thursday.

While Mark Harmon and Gary Glasberg were there mostly promote the “New Orleans” show, they did confirm that a season 12 episode of the show would feature Gibbs (Harmon), Tony (Michael Weatherly), Abby (Pauley Perrette), and Ducky (David McCallum) all visiting New Orleans for a new case. This is a slightly different crew than the one that visited the first time around, which we thoroughly approve of since it helps to make things fresh.

The incentive for producers to do this is simple: Ratings. You want the new show to be a rousing success, so why in the world would you not want to throw some familiar characters into that world? We enjoyed the “Crescent City” episodes so much that we are actually thoroughly excited about this, provided of course that the case behind it is a good one. The hard thing that comes with anticipation for an episode of the show is that unless the story-of-the-week brings something to the table, it’s hard for the hour as a whole to not fall flat.

Harmon also has another reason to want the “New Orleans” show to succeed: He’s an executive producer on the project. This gives him a chance to have another career set up for a while in the event that he does ever want to leave the flagship show, or you could also view it as another incentive for him to stick around for a while here, since he is so involved in the universe.

This news follows up the latest on the Cote de Pablo saga, where Glasberg insisted that there is “no bad blood’ between the actress and the show. However, that is no guarantee that she will ever be back on the show.
