‘The Last Ship,’ ‘Major Crimes’ renewed; ‘Falling Skies’ to get fifth and final season
TNT has just plotted out their course for at least three of the series on the network, and it’s a case of good and bad news.
Since we are in a particularly chipper mood this morning, let’s start with the good stuff: “The Last Ship,” “Major Crimes,” and “Falling Skies” were all renewed for additional seasons. Woohoo! This means that the network is ensuring themselves many popular franchises for a little while, and the Michael Bay series, which was also Eric Dane’s first since leaving “Grey’s Anatomy,” we not a dud. Also, cheers for submarine dramas! The majority of these are canceled before their first season even comes to a close.
Now, we transition over to the bad news: The fifth season for “Falling Skies” will be the last. We’re not going to sit over here with sound effects of our eyes popping out of our head, since we’re not even remotely shocked by this: While “Falling Skies” is a successful show, its ratings are not as good as “The Last Ship,” it has been around a while, and we imagine that it carries with it an extremely high budget. These are all components to the show not having a lengthy future. At least Tom, Anne, and the rest of earth’s survivors will have a chance to tie together their story in the way that they want. TNT is giving enough of an advance warning for that to happen.
There is still no word on the rest of the network’s shoes, but we feel pretty confident that “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Perception” will probably return, while “Dallas” is likely in trouble alongside “Franklin & Bash.” These are just our guesses for now, but we’ll see where things go later this summer.
