‘The Bridge’ season 2, episode 2 review: Something stranger this way comes

Tonight on “The Bridge,” we tried to get a little bit of a better understanding of what in the world was going on with the show. The show was a little of a mess during the premiere, albeit at least a fairly interesting one. We still have no real understanding what is going on all of the time, but we are enjoying most of what we’re seeing right now.

At least the new episode Wednesday night did satisfy one significant goal: Bringing Marco Ruiz and Sonya Cross back together again after some time apart. Marco was sent up to El Paso in order to monitor a case of a drug cartel member who happens to be a Mexican national, which is at least quite a bit different than the shocking murders that we had last time … at least by description alone. Things get crazier here when you dive underneath the surface.

For example, you have the latest example of seeing Daniel Frye getting beat up, Sonya chipping away at her bathroom, and Hank choosing to go so far out of his way as to tell Jack Dobbs that he needs to stay away from Sonya. Nothing has come together perfectly just yet, but we’re getting essences of feelings and motivations right now. Sometimes, understanding characters is more important than big, dramatic events.

The larger question for season 2 right now is what in the world Eleanor is meant to represent. We compared her to Anton from “No Country for Old Men” previously, and while she is not entirely that, she does have a very strange itinerary  for being in the area. Tonight, she lured in a young boy into thinking that he was going to be with her, only to murder him in a storage locker. Is she the Big Bad of the season? If so, we’d be more than with fine that.  Grade: B.
