‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: The trajectory towards a premiere date
While we unfortunately don’t have some news to report today when it comes to the “Downton Abbey” season 5 premiere date, we do at least have some more news that brings us closer to this very thing: News about the show’s press day.
Per a report coming in from Forbes, the press launch for the new season in Britain will be on Thursday, August 14. This is a chance for many outlets to see the premiere, spend some time discussing things with the cast and crew, and have some time to debate that does not include throwing any individual cast member down an uncomfortable line of questioning to draw headlines. Since most interviews are roundtables, there is not an opportunity to back anyone into a corner.
Given this date and the trajectory established by past seasons, it has been determined that the likely premiere date for the new season will be Sunday, September 14. For us, this is definitely a date worth celebrating. This is a full two weeks prior to the start of the fall season for major networks here in North America, and it is also a few weeks after the premiere of “Doctor Who” season 8. Basically, the show will have an opportunity to have a little bit of time in the limelight without worrying a whole lot about someone else taking over the headlines (unless of course something really crazy happens on “The X Factor,” given that this is a tabloid favorite across all of the country).
