‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: Producers on early challenges, plans
Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” started to build up some crazy-good momentum near the end of the show’s first season, and now going into season 2, there is really just one important question that they need to keep asking themselves: How do we maintain this? How do you further along the awesomeness of the HYDRA storyline and avoid a sophomore slump?
One thing that really may help this show out now is getting a lot of time to plan what comes next. As co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen tells Zap2It, they started to figure out some ideas for the second season right around the time that the first season was getting near the end:
“We started hashing out the second season before we even wrapped [Season 1] … We have our arcs, we have our tentpoles, and we have quite a few off the board. We’re starting production on our first episode next week, so that’s pretty fun.”
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Bell lays out the stakes that are going to present themselves now when it comes to following HYDRA, and keeping the mindset for some of teh characters around the same that it was:
“Once we could say ‘HYDRA’ and there were double-crosses and spies in our midst, the show got really interesting, and so [we’re] continuing that with SHIELD and Coulson not willing to trust people and not willing to bring people in, but having to because he doesn’t have as many resources; we think we can keep that ‘trust no one’ alive.”
One thing that they team is reportedly not going to have to deal with again? SHIELD not collapsing on itself thanks to a movie that will be coming out during the season. Therefore, they can focus more on their own story without having to tie it immediately into something happening in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” or something similar.
