‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: First news about 2014 Christmas Special
2014 is turning out to be quite the busy year for “Doctor Who“! In addition to all of the regular episodes that are going to be airing in the months ahead, the tradition of there being a Christmas episode is one that will very much still be going strong.
So what can we say about this right now? We’ll start with the fact that Steven Moffat is writing the special this year (cheers to that!), and also that production on it is going to start in a few weeks following the end of season 8 filming. This gives the cast at least a chance to get a little bit of rest, which is probably desired given the rigors of the past year. Production has been underway on the new season since the start of the year, and that is a long time to devote to one project (especially when you consider all of the promotional appearances and conventions that are coming up over the months ahead).
The one thing that we do believe right now about the Christmas Special is that it’ll have a hard time matching last year’s based on the sheer emotional weight of it all. Remember that that special really marked the end of the Matt Smith era, and featured the regeneration that is now thought of as somewhat controversial.
The season itself premieres on Saturday, August 23 in the majority of the world, and we’re looking forward to being there to cover the majority of it, and to also share a variety of news regarding what we can expect.
