MLB All-Star Game 2014: Idina Menzel performs National Anthem (video)
2014 has been a banner year for the artist sometimes known as Adele Nazeem (a.k.a. Idina Menzel): She got an opportunity to see “Frozen” take off and become a national sensation, she performed on the Oscars, and she has continued to shine on the Broadway stage.
All of this eventually took her to Minneapolis on Tuesday night, where she had the difficult task of singing the National Anthem outdoors during the MLB All-Star Game airing on Fox. We specifically label this a difficult task mostly because there are few tougher challenges for a vocalist than doing the anthem out of your element, and in front of millions of people. Also, you have some often-drunk people in the stadium who can be not so kind if you start to mess us the lyrics or hit a bum note.
Luckily, Idina is not an average performer, and there was probably never a reason to worry at all about whether or not she was going to kill this performance. This was pretty darn excellent from start to finish, and this was including some huge notes, and also probably the note in her head that there was going to be some sort of big military flyover taking place at some point before the performance was over. If there was ever a distraction, you would think that this loud noise would be it.
As for the rest of the game … well, we’re not sports fans. What we are, though, are frequent discussion leaders of National Anthems on major TV broadcasts like this one.
