‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Joanne Froggatt on where Anna’s story starts now
Can Anna finally be happy on “Downton Abbey“? At the start of last season, it looked like that opportunity was actually going to present itself in a pretty big way. Unfortunately, then came the shocker with Mr. Green and the rape, and this basically rendered it impossible over time for her to have any sort of normal relationship with her husband. Add to that the fact that he probably killed Green in revenge, and you have a tense situation.
The good news? Based on what Joanne Froggatt told E! News recently, there are going to be some happy times ahead for the couple. Unfortunately, it also sounds very much like these happy times could be short-lived:
“Anna and Bates do start season five in a more positive place than they were in season four, but obviously such an event is not something that dissipates or goes away. It’s something that people live with for the rest of their lives.”
Hopefully, we’re not just going to see another “maybe Bates goes back to jail” story, since we really do not know what else we could get out of that at this point. To us, the more interesting highlights could come out of just seeing the two of them try to look towards their future, start a family, or something else that many humans go through. Given the trauma that Anna has suffered, this would all still make this process incredibly difficult for her to go through.
“Downton Abbey” will return to ITV this September, but the wait for Americans to have the show come on in January is still going to be rather tiresome.
