‘Masters of Sex’ season 2, episode 2 preview: First look at ‘Kyrie Eleison,’ its meaning
What lies ahead on “Masters of Sex“? Tonight’s episode “Parallax” established what the new normal will be for Masters and Johnson in the wake of their “affair” beginning, and now we have another step into the future for them with “Kyrie Eleison.”
The first thing that is interesting about this episode is merely its title, which is a form of spiritual invocation known better to Catholics than anyone else. It’s certainly interesting that the show would choose to include something religious as the name for this show, mostly since the rest of it is not something that is even related to faith at all. Using our best Masters voice, this is a show about science! Since when does faith enter the equation.
For some more insight into what is going on, in particular when it comes to Masters and Johnson as he starts to find a new future for himself, take a look at the official synopsis below:
“Masters begins a new job at Memorial Hospital under Betty’s extortion terms only to discover that his boss insists he leave Virginia behind in favor of a handpicked secretary. Meanwhile, Johnson is torn between pressing Masters to rehire her and staying by DePaul’s side as her condition worsens.”
What we hope that this episode does better than anything is continue to make the story both loosely based in reality, but also still juicy and interesting. The writers have done a great job of balancing this so far, mostly in how they’ve managed to keep things reasonably realistic, while staying cognizant that this is a TV show first and foremost. Entertainment is how you keep viewers.
