‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4: Anson Mount, cast get out and give back

Hell on Wheels -We imagine that there would be at least a few disadvantages to shooting a TV show out in a place like Calgary. The weather’s obviously cold there at certain times of the year, and you are probably far away from most of your friends and family.

However, with that come a number of key advantages. It’s scenic for one, and you also have a number of people who are not entirely touched by the same sort of cynicism as the Los Angeles and the New Yorks of the world when it comes to the entertainment industry. In the end, the “Hell on Wheels” cast seem to enjoy being here, and they also get a chance to do more in the community that they probably would if they were in a big, entertainment-saturated city.

Earlier this weekend, many of the cast members (including star Anson Mount) took part in a fundraising event for the organizations Ducks Unlimited and Green Calgary at the St. James Corner pub in the city. Mostly, they bartended as a way to raise money. Mount spoke to the Calgary Herald about working in the town, and by and large had nothing but positive things to say:

“I love working here … This is the most hospitable town I’ve ever worked in, the people are lovely.”

Mount added that there are many fans out there in the world who do try to “objectify” you and believe that you are the same as your character, which can be a difficult thing to deal with from time to time as they assume that your personality is the same. We imagine that can be difficult, especially if you play a guy like Cullen Bohannon who is so rugged and typically follows the beat of his own drummer.

Production in Calgary for the show started earlier this summer, and we are no longer that far away from the show’s return to the air on August 2. Stay tuned for more updates, or click here to see everything that we have already said.
