‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Do we believe this headline for a second?
There are crazy, sensationalized headlines that find their way on the internet, and then there are some that the British press have managed to take to another level and blow up straight to oblivion. That is what we believe is happening with some of the latest stories coming out now pertaining to “Downton Abbey.”
This extremely weird story comes to us via (who else?) The Sun, who used a claim from Julian Fellowes to say that the food on the show’s set is apparently so good that he is “demanding” that the cast all watch their watch, at least out of fear that they no longer fit in to their period costumes:
“The feeling is there’s not a better egg sandwich in England. But the cast have asked to cut down on supplies so they can’t be tempted. Between takes and reshoots some actors were munching through a whole loaf’s worth of sarnies.”
This story has been picked up almost all across the internet, and to us there seems to be one constant: The inability for most in the media to be able to detect humor. Fellowes, when making these comments, likely was doing so in a lighthearted manner while talking about some tasty food. However, the internet is no making him out to be some sort of angry dictator who is trying to turn the show into “The Biggest Loser.”
Also, the people on this show are all adults and professionals, and therefore know how much food is too much food. Ultimately, they really do not need to have some executive producer somewhere telling them just how much food they should be ingesting.
