‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: Hints from George R.R. Martin on what lies ahead
If you love “Game of Thrones,” you clearly know that you are not the only one. The HBO series has become a global sensation, and that is why we have people and conventions all over the world who are willing to fly those tied to the show in to speak.
This sort of opportunity came for George R.R. Martin recently, as the A Song of Ice and Fire author made an appearance at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland. You can grab the entire stream of the appearance from Martin below (via Winter Is Coming); it’s a worthwhile watch if you have the time to see most of it, but we’ve singled out a specific quote below in which Martin really praises HBO as the rightful home for his show. They have a track record of getting many things right, and they continue to do so here:
“I was nervous at first, because you turn your baby over to other people and you never know how they’re going to treat it. But I turned my baby over to the best people I knew, to David Benioff and Dan Weiss, an amazing pair of writers and showrunners who have done some very distinguished work separately, and to HBO, which was the best production company in American Television. They have elevated television to heights previously undreamed of, with shows like The Sopranos, and Deadwood. So, I did the best I can and I was handsomely rewarded, I’ve been very, very pleased with what I’ve seen.”
Granted, we are still interested in what Martin will think if the story of the show continues to diverge more and more from the story in the books.
Martin recently spoke in a separate interview about the notion that he may not be able to finish the book series he started, calling the talk offensive while also saying he prefers to write chapters at his home in New Mexico, and not while traveling around the world or in hotels.
