‘True Detective’ season 2 spoilers: Colin Ferrell in talks for lead role
“True Detective” certainly could have gone the safe route in trying to cast their next leading man, but they certainly aren’t doing that per the newest reports that are out there.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Colin Ferrell (who you’ve probably seen in a dozen or so things over the years) is close to signing a deal to be the male lead for the second season of the HBO show. He definitely has a resume for the part, is a big name, and could really skyrocket his career again with this part. There is clearly no reason that he would shy away from this role.
But is there a reason for us to be nervous about him in the part? For the time being we’d say so, if for no other reason than that Colin’s a little bit of a wild card. There are great movies featuring him, and then there are some outright duds. You never quite know what you are going to get with him, but we would’ve also said about a year and a half ago the same thing about Matthew McConaughey. It wasn’t until “The Lincoln Lawyer” and “Dallas Buyers Club” that we started to take him seriously as an actor.
HBO head Michael Lombardo said at TCA yesterday that they already had a good idea when it comes to the direction that they were taking with their casting, and that they assumed that an announcement was coming within a week. There are still more roles to be announced, but this one certainly came out quicker than many were expecting.
For now, what is your reaction to this casting news? Sound off in the comments now.
