‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: HBO boss not concerned about catching up to books

Game of Thrones -It’s no secret to any “Game of Thrones” fan at this point that the show is starting to become Icarus getting a little too close to the Sun … and that Sun in this case is the last chapter of the George R.R. Martin A Song of Ice and Fire series that the public has seen.

We’re assuming that the sixth book in the series entitled The Winds of Winter will be out at some point in the reasonable future, at least before the show would release a sixth season for TV. But what about after that? This is when we start to predict a little chaos taking hold. The show will be getting near a renegotiation point with its actors, and the idea that Martin would get a second book out before season 7 in 2016 seems to be way too far of a reach.

Still (at least for now), the powers that be over at HBO are not too worried about it. Speaking at the Television Critics Association summer panel this afternoon, network head Michael Lombardo said that they are “not concerned” about the idea of the show catching up to the books, with the major reason for that being that “George is an integral part of the creative team [and] every move is being choreographed very closely with him. We’ll have to figure it out with George. We’re in conversations with him.”

Our personal feeling is that there should be some sort of hiatus for the show after season 6, just so that Martin can finish the next book and have the seventh season come out later. If you need to film in advance and shelve it for a while, that’s what needs to be done. While we are a viewer of the show first, we don’t feel like it would be right for the series to ever get ahead of its source material.

In case you are wondering, Martin gets very offended and angry when people ask him whether or not he is going to finish writing the books, and why it takes him so long. Check out more on that here, and head over to this link to get some additional TV scoop now via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
