‘The View’: Elisabeth Hasselbeck responds (with fury) over Rosie O’Donnell rumors
How is this for some unnecessary stoking of the fire? Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been away from “The View” for just about a year now, and has made a nice little career for herself over on “Fox & Friends.” Regardless of if you love the show or hate it, it’s become a nice little ratings champion for Fox News while many other cable news programs suffer in the morning.
This is why we were pretty shocked to hear some of the things that Hasselbeck said about Rosie O’Donnell potentially rejoining the ABC talk show in a segment this morning. Specifically, we’re talking about this quote:
“I know Rosie very well. We worked together quite closely … Talk about not securing the border. Here in comes to The View the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network and really in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there.”
What’s the need to say it? Your show is already successful, and given Rosie’s recent track record, we have a hard time feeling that hers will be. This just feels almost like rehashing feuds that were so far in the past.
Hasselbeck also took it upon herself to put on a conspiracy cap, and say that Rosie being involved in Barbara Walters’ goodbye show in some way was evidence that this may have been planned forever ago:
“Do you think that the woman who left the way that she did would be producing Walters’ goodbye show? Here’s the shocker: It was actually her hello show … I do believe this has been in the works for a very, very long time.”
We do feel like this is probably right to a certain extent. “The View” knew that they would need a big personality to fill the void left by Walters, and Rosie is that. However, we’d argue that they do still need a conservative voice to fill out the panel like they had with Hasselbeck. We’re not saying whether or not we agreed with her viewpoints, but the show is basically just a regurgitation of everything else on TV if everyone has the same opinion.
We’ll have more on “The View” and the Rosie situation soon, including an official announcement whenever that comes out. For now, we suggest just heading over here to get some further updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
