‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11, ‘Scandal’ season 4 writers back at work

The latest -While some ABC series choose to give their writers a hiatus prior starting up scripts for a new season, Shondaland seems to do things a little bit differently. The teams with “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” worked on some story ideas a little earlier this spring / summer, and then took a lengthy break to get the creative juices going again.

As Shonda Rhimes herself confirmed on Twitter, the writers rooms for both of these shows managed to dive headfirst into work again today, which to us definitely qualifies as big news to celebrate. Filming for the two series is also not that far off, so these writers are in particular going to be working hard to try to pick up these shows with the characters in interesting places.

For “Grey’s Anatomy,” the challenge at this point is going to be trying to find a way to get some of the drama pumping in a way that does not feel completely like “hasn’t this already been done before?”. When you are entering your eleventh season, this is something that has to be of major concern.

For “Scandal,” the challenge is a little more of how you convince Olivia Pope to dive back into this world again. During the season 3 finale, she did what was arguably one of the smart things that she’s ever done in choosing to just get the heck out of Dodge. Who would want to stay in this Washington DC with all of this insanity? The truth here still is, though, that unless Olivia goes back, there’s almost no show to write about.
