‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: Even more Croatia
By the time “Game of Thrones” production for season 5 is over, we feel like someone is probably going to need to put the crew and producers in bed for a solid month.
You may have heard by now that the show is going to be heading to Spain, Iceland, and of course Northern Ireland (where the interior shots are) for filming throughout the months ahead. Croatia was also a given, thanks largely to the present of Dubrovnik, the city that doubles for King’s Landing. Now, there is something close to confirmation that some additional cities in the Eastern European country will also be visited. Split, the city that played a role in the show for the first time in season 4, will be back. Also, a local outlet reports (per Winter Is Coming) that a new city in Šibenik has been added to the production docket this time around. There are many fortresses in the city, and an opportunity to feature more architecture that would fit well within the world of the show.
The question that we have no is fairly simple: Is this were producers are going to set the Arya storyline? If the show follows the books (spoiler alert ahead!), the character will be off to Braavos early on in the season to continue her story. We haven’t seen so much of the land yet for it to be tied to any particular location, and the general assumption is that the locations in Spain will be meant for Dorne.
While we worry about the exhaustion for the show’s many workers, we’re never going to complain about locations. The more authentic the show, the happier we are in the end.
