‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Julian Fellowes predicting at least one more season
When you look at when most British series traditionally come to a close, it may be fair to argue that time is starting to tick away when it comes to “Downton Abbey.” The show is already in its fifth season, and most serials across the pond are lucky to make it just to three or four years.
So to hear Julian Fellowes say that he wants this show, which is largely responsible for when it comes to the scripts, go another year, it has to be music to the ears of most fans. Speaking in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, he had the following to say on the subject of the show’s long-term future:
“I don’t know yet if there is a season six… it’s not going to go on forever. I would be amazed if there wasn’t another series after [this one].”
Ultimately, we feel like there is virtually no reason to worry at all when it comes to the prospects of the show being back. The ratings are big in Britain, enormous all over the world, and it is still a perennial Emmy contender in the acting categories. While it may be rather pricey to make, we feel like production gets their money back and then some.
With all of this being said, next year does seem like the right time to call it a day. You don’t want the show to last so long that it starts to get to World War II, or some of the older characters like the Dowager start to pass away.
