“Crossbones” has become one of the sole entries in our Friday TV catalog this summer, with one of the only reasons for that being that it is literally one of the only things on. This is not a night that is known for having a huge percentage of viewers home, ready to watch something big. They’d rather be outside, spending time with friends, or hitting up the movie theater to see a blockbuster.
With this being the 4th of July, all of this is amplified … and this is one of two reasons why the pirate drama is a repeat tonight. The other? NBC already has some 4th of July programming planned out that will take its place for the time being. This draws much better ratings, and their Nick Cannon-hosted show has become something of a tradition.
Unfortunately for fans of “Crossbones,” we cannot see this becoming much of a tradition either now or ever. The show is not faring well at all in the ratings. It started off okay, and while skewing a little older than most of their other Friday shows like “Hannibal,” had a decent 18-49 demo rating when you consider the timeslot and the time of the year. However, the viewership has since walked the plank after there was probably not the sort of swashbuckling that most viewers were hoping to see n the show. This was instead a little drier than many expected, and it took time to get into the characters.
Don’t worry if you are watching, though, is NBC will almost certainly continue to play out the rest of the season until it returns with new episodes.
