‘Sherlock’ season 4: Mark Gatiss on renewal, overall excitement
For “Sherlock” fans all around the world, there was not a whole lot of doubt about whether or not the show would be back on the BBC. The larger question was more along the lines of “when.” The popularity of this series has never been questioned, and this was just an issue of logistics given that everyone from Steven Moffat to Benedict Cumberbatch to Martin Freeman and Mark Gatiss have a dozen or so different things that they are working on at any given time.
Yesterday, we shared the glorious news about the renewal, in addition to the fact that there would technically be a Christmas special along with three separate new episodes. Technically, this is the largest renewal that we’ve ever had! Now, we turn the excitement over to co-creator Gatiss, who had a number of fun things to say about what the overall emotions of the writing staff and the producers are right now:
“Series Four! At last ! It’s always special to return to Sherlock but this time it’s even more special as we’re doing… a Special! Not only THAT, we’ll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole Sherlock team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on – again!”
These scripts will most likely be written in the months ahead, and we will have some more news coming up for that as it is leaked. Of course, we never want to say too much about this show in particular since a big part of the fun is the sense of surprise that you have when the episodes air.

Good to hear, but please, please watch your continuity this time around. In “His Last Vow, ” during the slapping scene in the lab, Sherlock’s arms are folded, down, folded, down. Also props moving between takes are a bit distracting. Other than that, bring on the deductions!

The man writes puke. This series is puke. It is the biggest BBC joke ever.
