‘The Bachelorette’ spoilers: How Andi Dorfman, cast handle Eric Hill’s death on-camera

Eric Hill -Earlier this season on “The Bachelorette,” it was fairly easy to say that the show did an admirable job handling the passing of Eric Hill. It was a difficult situation without a doubt, but they presented it with some dignity, though of course we would have loved to hear more about his life away from the show.

So are we really that surprised about the news that the show is going to feature a segment all about his death next week? Not exactly. This isn’t the sort of thing that you really would be surprised about, after all, with this show’s “give them everything that is on camera” philosophy. This is a situation where a ton of real emotion can be mined. With that being said, we’re nervous about watching it. The super-dramatic music in the promo here feels unnecessary, and we would have much preferred it had the show edited in something more simplistic rather than something that screams “drama.”

The one thing that we hope is touched on somewhere in here is that this is a TV show, but the bonds forged between all of them are what lasts. We’re not just talking about the bond between Andi and whoever she picks here, either. The men are probably the ones who genuinely knew Eric more than Andi did, given that they spent the majority of the time with him, even some when the cameras were not filming. They have the stories that, at least for now, have really not been told that much. Hopefully, this will change throughout this episode.

Also, there are hometown dates, though they seem to matter somewhat less in retrospect. The only thing to us that is interesting is Andi suddenly acting surprised about the fact that Chris lives in the middle of nowhere. Did you zone out during the part where he said that this was his job? You cannot have a farm in the middle of a burgeoning community.
