2014 BET Awards: Drake, Lupita Nyong’o, August Alsina among winners

Who were the big winners on the BET Awards tonight? Save for us getting the opportunity to watch some more good stuff from Chris Rock, there were some actual people who got the opportunity to walk away with some trophies on the network. That is ultimately what this article is all about.

While with some awards shows we offer some commentary on the winners, this one is not entirely geared around our area of expertise in TV. Therefore, we’re going to leave some of the analyzing to you while we simply just share the list of people who walked away with a trophy and the adoration of many.

New Artist – August Alsina

Gospel Artist – Tamela Mann

Actress – Lupita Nyong’o (we are personally very excited to see what she does next with her movie career).

Male Artist – Drake (we could make a really obvious “started from the bottom, now he’s here” joke … oh wait, we just did).

Video of the Year – Pharrell, “Happy” (Pharrell is probably very happy about this one, and he also continues to rock that hat like nobody’s business).

Male R&B Pop Artist – Pharrell (we seriously envision many awards going this way for quite a while off of the strength of his music lately).

Lifetime Achievement Award – Lionel Richie (mostly, our sense of shock here is just that he hasn’t been honored before for the insane career he has had).
