Ratings: ‘Girl Meets World’ has strong start for the Disney Channel
Did “Girl Meets World” end up meeting some strong ratings? It probably did not end up doing as well as many probably thought it was going to do in advance, but it is still the top-rated launch of a Disney Channel show all year long.
Overall, the pilot episode drew 5.2 million viewers, and also was the #1 show launch of the year in the kids 2-11 demo with 2.3 million watching. That should alleviate some of the questions about whether or not the primary people watching this show were adults, and children were not even bothering. Even if there were only 300,000 people aged 12-18 tuning in, that still means that half of the audience was constituted of minors.
The reason that the numbers may be a little lower than some were expecting going into this may have something to do with the fact that the show did have the pilot online many weeks ago. This could be more of a slow-burn watch than anything, since most diehard fans probably decided that they could not wait until last night to see how “Boy Meets World” was brought back.
While we expect that the cast here probably holds this show up to a slightly higher standard than anything else cultivated by the House of Mouse these days, there is still not a significant reason to worry for a while. This is a show that will draw some very big numbers for weeks, and the only way we see them going down is if viewers suddenly decide that they hate what they are seeing. Despite some claims that it was a little too corny (which was one concern we had), the show itself is worth seeing at least a few more times to see if it becomes amazing.
