‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: John Bradley on the recent Queen visit
It’s not often that your show about kings and conquerors is visited by a real royal, so we imagine that the cast and crew of “Game of Thrones” had quite a thrill recently when Queen Elizabeth II stopped by for a visit.
This was a little bit of an unusual situation in some ways, given that filming was not exactly going on at the time she stopped by. As we wrote here, she met many actors (including Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie, who technically isn’t even on the show anymore), and then she did the one thing that no fanboy would ever consider: Looking at the Iron Throne, but not feeling the temptation to sit on it.
Unfortunately for John Bradley (who plays Sam), he was not one of the people in attendance for work reasons. However, he still had a pretty fun reaction to the Queen not sitting on the throne in an interview with InStyle UK:
“Slightly gutted, but I have to say I completely understand. I’d say that the whole ‘sitting on the Iron Throne’ experience is intended to be a novelty for people who don’t have that many encounters with thrones in their day to day lives. If you’re Her Majesty and you sit on a throne a fairly large part of the time then the novelty is lost. I think we can safely say she’s over thrones.”
The one thing that we’re not over at this point is the Sam story. We know he’s one of the more derided characters on the show, but we found him especially interesting during the Battle at the Wall, and feel like he does have a significant role to play still in the Night’s Watch story. Things are certainly going to change there, which is what Harrington recently spoke about when it comes to Stannis being there for the first time.
