‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Differing opinions on big deaths
Two years ago on “Downton Abbey,” much of the British public went insane over the news that both Jessica Brown Findlay and Dan Stevens were each leaving the show, and their characters were dead. A few months later, America then had the opportunity to do the same exact thing when they found out.
We are now staring in the face of season 5, and the possibilities that we could see a repeat performance now courtesy of some other actor. The one that we’d be worried about the most right now is Lady Rose, if for no other reason than that Lily James is supposedly leaving to fulfill promotional duties for “Cinderella.” We personally still feel like that is doubtful, though, given that killing another member of this extended family would start to make us think that they are cursed.
Here is the funny thing about season 5 already: There are already conflicting reports about whether or not a big death could be on the way. Lesley Nicol recently claimed that there will be no big deaths this season, but then a week later (i.e., this week), executive producer and writer Julian Fellowes hinted that this may not necessarily be the case. Here is what he had to say when asked about Nicol’s comments by the Telegraph:
“You see, I only finished the last script on Tuesday.”
Intrigued? We definitely are, though this may just be Fellowes trying to keep the air of mystery around his show. He is not someone who is found of spoilers in the slightest. As a matter of fact, the best comparison we could give for him is as the British version of “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner.
The one last thing that we can offer up for now is that based on the latest teaser video, the show certainly seems to want to set up an ominous tone.

Funny that they have now put themselves in a position where they can’t kill off Rose. Because unlike with Sybil and Matthew, few people would weep for her anyway.
