‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Ryan Murphy on Michael Chiklis’ role

When you have an actor like Michael Chiklis on your show, especially on FX, you know that there is going to be a certain element of gravitas that inevitably goes along with it. This is an actor who is iconic to the network thanks to “The Shield,” and the last thing you want to do in bringing him back is messing him up.

Luckily, it seems as though Ryan Murphy has the perfect role in mind for him for “American Horror Story: Freak Show.” It seems perfect for the actor, and also give him an opportunity to be emotional and spend time with another grade-A actor in Kathy Bates. For more, just take a look at what the showrunner had to say to TVLine:

“[Michael is playing] a strong man who’s married to Angela Bassett[‘s character]. He has scenes with Angela and Jessica Lange and [onscreen ex] Kathy Bates. I love the part because it’s really written to be quite vulnerable, which is something I think Michael does so well –  the strong man who’s vulnerable. I’m very excited to see [him] tussle with all those great ladies. And he’s really up for it, really excited about it.”

There is little reason for us to be anything other than super-thrilled about Chiklis on the show. The guy is basically a boss, but he has not gotten to do a super-meaty and fantastic TV role in a little while. This is that opportunity, since Murphy does come up with sensational roles sometimes for this series. While we don’t always feel that his concepts come together well, they at least sound awesome in the planning stages.

This is the latest character revealed for the series. We already heard that Sarah Paulson is going to be playing a set of conjoined twins, and Lange will be the founder of this Jupiter, Florida freak show that serves as the focal point.
