‘Graceland’ season 2 spoilers: Will things turn around for Jakes soon?
Despite having a title that makes us think of Elvis Presley, Tennessee, and other happy things, “Graceland” is not a happy-go-lucky show. It’s weathered, gritty, stuffed full of action, and at times makes us feel sad for some of its characters.
There is no better example of us feeling really sad for someone than how we felt for Jakes after the last new episode of the show. He was starting to turn things around and get close to actually having his son in his life, only for things to completely careen back in the other direction. It was one of the saddest moments of the entire series to see him set up a child’s bedroom for nothing, and he clearly expressed himself (albeit in a not-so-good / violent way) when he learned that he was not going to be receiving a visitor anytime soon.
In describing what it appeared Jakes’ story was going to be prior to this revelation last week, show boss Jeff Eastin tells TVLine that this character could be described now as “a guy who’s not as bitter, who’s not labeling his food, but obviously we can’t let him have that, because it’s television, so we very quickly crashed that bus.” However, he now says that there is a very “dark” road ahead for the character, and that definitely means trouble. Given the violent outburst we just saw, we know that he could be capable of much worse.
