‘Turn’ season 2 official; AMC renews Colonial spy drama
“Turn” is not going to like “Low Winter Sun,” at least in that it will get only one season before completely fading away.
AMC confirmed on Monday that the show, after averaging around two million viewers during its first season across multiple airings, will be brought back for a second season. We’re not completely shocked by this announcement, but we also would not have been shocked if it was canceled. This was always one of those decisions that could have gone either way, depending on what direction the network wanted to go with it.
In a statement, AMC head Charlie Collier seemed to be elated that there would be no reason to worry about the show’s future:
“Craig Silverstein, Barry Josephson and a talented cast and crew delivered a truly distinctive and engaging premiere season. We look forward to continuing this revolutionary journey into season two … AMC and its creative partners have a track record of nurturing programs we collectively believe in, patiently growing viewership and engagement over time. With ‘TURN,’ once again, we dive in with our partners to build upon this very promising first season.”
Establishing new properties is something that the network does desperately need right now. “Breaking Bad” is over, “Mad Men,” is about to be gone, as well, and there is no real guarantee that “The Walking Dead’s” upcoming spin-off is going to be much of a success at all. There is another new show in “Halt and Catch Fire” that is not producing big ratings, but we expect the critical acclaim for it here will be enough to get it a second season. Remember here that neither “Breaking Bad” nor “Mad Men” had good ratings at all when they premiered, but word of mouth helped to change that.

Low Winter Sun basically averaged what Turn did. I wonder if AMC regrets cancelling it now.
