‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: Questions on Hodor

Hodor -Who doesn’t love Hodor? The gentle giant (at least so long as Bran is not controlling him) is one of the most beloved characters on “Game of Thrones,” and the love for him seems to be universal. This is one of the few characters out there who if George R.R. Martin ever was to kill him, there would probably be some sort of spontaneous revolt.

But does Hodor have a greater purpose than ever we know? If you were to ask Hodor about it, his answer would be very simple: “Hodor.” He is mostly right now a pseudo-protector of Bran and a transport device, and very little else. We like to envision here and there that this man could be something else, and Kristian Narin seems to feel the same way. Speakiing to GQ, he offers up what we think is a rather fun theory about

“I think there’s something there, keeping him almost hidden. You know, keeping his real personality down. Maybe he’s someone important. I definitely think he’s a sleeper character. That’s only my opinion. That’s not the official George R.R. Martin version. It might be nothing. He might just actually be stupid. In my version, I don’t think he is. I think there is something else there.”

Personally, we feel like there could be something greater for Hodor, but it may not be something we find out about until late in the series’ run. There are many occasions here, after all, where we are forced to wait to see where a given character fits in with the larger puzzle. We already have that to an extent with Bran and the Children, so it only makes sense that someone else would be joining the fold.
