‘Longmire’ season 3 spoilers: One of the other mysteries ahead

Tomorrow night, you will a chance to see the first new episode of “Longmire” since Henry’s release from prison, and you have to think that there are going to be all sorts of interesting developments that stem from that.

In looking a little bit down the road, though, what sort of other cases are we going to see the show explore? We know that there are some who watch strictly to enjoy the one-off mysteries, and there may be a particularly interesting one coming in the sixth episode of season 3 entitled “Reports of My Death.” This revolves around a nice little twist on the classic “cold case” mystery, with it being in this case the discovery of a dead body belonging to an heir who was declared missing many decades earlier. Traditionally, the “cold case” storylines on shows are the ones where there is already a body buried, and then some evidence comes up that makes the case be re-opened. This is almost starting fresh on something that is decades old.

The list of challenges here may be insurmountable for Longmire and the team to deal with, given that you have to find individuals who remember the victim, and the locations that may still have evidence of something that was 30 years beforehand. We’re sure that something will eventually come of this (you do not introduce such a story for no reason), but the odds will be stacked against everyone … and maybe that is what makes this story potentially so much fun.
