‘The Last Ship’ premiere preview: Will Eric Dane, Michael Bay’s new show pay off?

The Last Ship -Tonight, TNT is premiering a show that is certainly one of the most ambitious in the network’s history. It also happens to be one of the riskiest.

The Last Ship” is bringing to the table first and foremost a tremendous sense of realism, at least as much as there can be for a show about an isolated ship surrounded by a global pandemic. They are filming on a real Navy ship, and the video below gives you a little more insight into the process and how difficult this is for the cast and crew to do. There is also a great deal of science and preparation that goes into everything here from start to finish when it comes to the story. The ultimate goal here is to make this feel like you are really on a Navy ship, and that the additional circumstances  just add that other layer to it.

The reason to be excited about this show is because you have a guy in Eric Dane who knows the medium well thanks to “Grey’s Anatomy,” and Adam Baldwin has a huge following in between “Chuck” and “Firefly.” Also, you have Michael Bay, who, despite his critics, probably sleeps on stacks of money and have a Scrooge McDuck room somewhere in his mansion. The guy knows how to make big productions.

As for why to be worried, it is simply because military and submarine TV shows have not done too well over the past several years unless it is something like “NCIS.” “Last Resort” lasted just its initial arc on ABC, and even a military comedy like “Enlisted” had a pretty short shelf life when you stop to think about it.
