‘Supernatural’ season 10: How Dean, Castiel are facing off with ‘Hannibal’

Check it out -For those of you who love “Supernatural,” or even if you just love Dean and Castiel, you’ll probably want to know this in the event that you were not aware already: The two characters are currently nominees in the 2014 Fandom Awards. This is a new awards-show put on this year by mtvU, with the winners being announced on Sunday, July 27 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.

Dean and Castiel are one of the pairs that is up for ‘Ship of the Year, which is something that we feel like probably could have have been doubled as a category to include the likes of Ziva and Tony (“NCIS”), Hook and Emma (“Once Upon a Time”), Emma and Regina (also “Once Upon a Time”), Brittany and Santana (“Glee”), or Emily and Alison (“Pretty Little Liars”). The qualification for this category simply seems to be the ‘ships that are talked the most about on the internet, and outside the five nominees below, these five are the ones that come to mind.

We’ve went ahead and included all of the major nominees below in addition to this one; if you want to vote, you can do so over here.

Breakout Fandom of the Year

  • Hannibal
  • Orphan Black
  • Sleepy Hollow
  • Frozen
  • Bates Motel

Given that “Frozen” only came out in the fall of last year, how is it really a breakout fandom?

‘Ship of the Year

  • Stiles/Derek “Sterek” (Teen Wolf)
  • Dean/Castiel “Destiel” (Supernatural)
  • Sherlock/John Watson “Johnlock” (Sherlock)
  • Damon/Elena “Delena” (The Vampire Diaries)
  • Katniss Everdeen/Peeta Mellark “Everlark” (The Hunger Games)

We totally think that this is probably just between “Teen Wolf” and “Supernatural” at this point, given what we’ve seen about these followings online coupled with not enough recognition elsewhere.

Fandom Feat of the Year

  • Veronica Mars – For making the movie happen.
  • Teen Wolf – For raising funds for a wolf sanctuary.
  • Community – The show got a fifth season thanks to the fans, but this one feels a little sad now since its canceled.
  • Hannibal – Getting the show another season.
  • Supernatural – Basically everything Misha Collins does with Random Acts.

OMG Moment of the Year

  • Star Wars – The cast photo
  • Breaking Bad – The end of the show.
  • Game of Thrones – The Purple Wedding
  • How I Met Your Mother – The finale, though we would label this more the “get angry” moment of the year.
  • Batman vs. Superman – Ben Affleck cast as Batman

Best Fandom Forever

  • Harry Potter
  •  The Lord of the Rings
  •  Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  •  Doctor Who
  •  Sherlock
  •  Batman

We’d narrow this one down to either “Harry Potter” or “Doctor Who,” just based on devotion.
