‘Falling Skies’ season 4 premiere spoilers: Show boss on general themes ahead
Sunday night is turning out to be an enormous one for programming. You have the premiere of “Falling Skies” and “True Blood,” “America’s Got Talent” airing on a Sunday night, and ABC attempting to a launch a new singing-show sensation in “Rising Star.” It will be interesting to see ultimately just how all of these fare, but when it comes to the TNT drama, we can at least say that there are some pretty ambitious things being planned for the time being.
Thematically, you are looking at a potentially epic story all about a reunion, which makes sense given that you see some sort of separation between some of the characters within the 2nd Mass. at the start of the episode.
Speaking on this subject in a new TVLine interview, the brand-new showrunner in David Eick (who you may know from his work on “Battlestar Galactica”
“We were looking at [Star Wars: Episode V] The Empire Strikes Back as sort of the model … Theres something compelling about having your heroes separated, cordoned off from each other, and then you find yourself as an audience yearning for their reunion. You of course become more aware, in a heightened sense, of the value that each character brings, because you see what they have to endure when they’re without each other.”
The idea here sounds exciting, and what we really hope for more than anything else is a genuine focus and buildup of tension along with diversity in storytelling. If there is one thing we have been rather critical of when it comes to this show in the past, it is that there have been way too many moments where the story feels the same from one episode to the next.
