‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 finale: Did the ratings set another record?
What is shocking to us is that for some reason, “The Children” did not break any records despite being an epic episode, and the best finale that the show has had to date by a pretty long stretch. The episode still drew 7.1 million viewers, which is a rise of more than 30% from the ratings for the season 3 finale. It also ensures that the season ends on a pretty strong note. The main reason we believe there was no record is because of heavy competition in the form of the NBA Finals, or people who were drunk from the World Cup celebrations earlier in the day.
Can the show actually get any more popular than it is, though? That is the interesting question we have now. While there are some exceptions like “Breaking Bad” and shows like “The Big Bang Theory” that find audiences through syndication, typically the fourth season of cable shows is when they start to hit their peak. From here, it becomes so deep in the run that it is harder for new fans to catch up, and you have the occasional straggler who becomes upset over a story and decides that they do not want to tune in anymore. We’ll have to see if this level of ratings glory is maintained when the new season premieres next April.
