2014 MMVAs: Ariana Grande closes show with ‘Problem’; where was Iggy Azalea?
The MuchMusic Video Awards tend to like to close off the show every year with a huge performance, and they did so tonight with one of the biggest songs on the entire planet right now: Ariana Grande’s “Problem.”
The first thing that was noticeable about this performance was simply the absence of one Iggy Azalea, who is featured on the track. Where was she during all of this? She was in Boston, as she has a career that is rising to new heights of her own, in between the success of “Fancy,” her album, and her role on Ariana’s track. She is the first artist since The Beatles to have her first two major songs be featured #1 and #2 on the Billboard charts.
So even without Iggy, of course Ariana brought her own energy and flair to the performance. You’ve seen most of the dance moves on some of her other performances already, but if you are a fan of hers we imagine that you probably do not care that much. This was still a song that got everyone dancing in Toronto to close out the show, which at least moved along at a brisk pace.
The one thing that surprised us this year as a whole was that the overall event seemed to be a little less star-studded than in years past, with the exception of Grande, Ed Sheeran, and a fe other names. You had no Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, or many other A-list names that could have brought extra fire to proceedings.
