‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: What we know about filming, premiere date, more

Game of Thrones -Tonight on HBO, “Game of Thrones” season 4 will be at an end … even though it feels very much like we just embarked on this journey for the first time with some of these characters. That is a real testament to how quickly time can fly when you’re having fun (watching a show), and how the abundance of storylines in many ways makes each one of them feel very short.

So where do we go from here? Season 5 has obviously been renewed for some time, and there is already a season 6 confirmed to go along with that. The writing process for the fifth season has been underway for some time, and there are even many roles being scouted at the moment. Without revealing too much as to who these are just yet, all we would say is that Prince Oberyn’s death is not going to be forgotten by his own people. Expect to hear more from Dorne in season 5.

With that in mind, the show is also possibly looking to replicate Dorne on the series. There has been location scouting for potential palaces and other residents for many weeks now, in particular in Spain. If the series films there, this will be a brand-new territory for them. They have filmed before in nearby Morocco, and while its status as a location moving forward is unclear, you can bet for sure on seeing more of Dubrovnik (otherwise known as the location of King’s Landing) and also Northern Ireland, where the majority of the interior sets are located. Iceland has also been used for many outdoor regions surrounding The Veil, but we imagine its return will be dependent on a number of factors from tonight.

If we were to speculate on an official premiere date tonight, we’d say to watch out for Sunday, April 5. This is the same window of the year that season 4 premiered in, and HBO typically likes to launch the show between March 31 and April 7 if at all possible.

We’ll have so much more news and reaction on the finale later tonight, and you will be able to see it all over at the link here. Also, be sure to sign up if you want to grab further TV updates via our official newsletter.
