‘The X Factor’ UK notes: Ella Henderson’s honor; Cheryl Cole’s new video

The latest news -Let us start this “X Factor” article off with some massive congratulations being sent in the direction of a certain Ella Henderson! She has just become the lowest-place finisher ever on the show to score a #1 single right out of the gate.

This single is “Ghost,” which has received a great deal of promotion on the show and even a performance on “Britain’s Got Talent” earlier this year. The song was definitely set up well to be a hit, given that Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic helped to pen it, and it also got thorough publicity from Syco Records. This is the time to give Simon Cowell a little bit of credit, tough as that is at times. There were moments previously when we questioned whether signing someone who didn’t finish that high on her season was that smart a move, but he clearly knew what she was doing. Ella was young enough to still improve, and dedicated enough to ensure that she would.

As for other news … How about the new music video from Cheryl Cole? We’re not going to say that the new clip for “Crazy Stupid Love” is the most original video that we’ve seen ever, but is basically modern pop in its purest form. We’re seeing some horn-like sounds used as a part of the beat in multiple hits these days (see Ariana Grande’s “Problem”), and there are also parts of the song that do remind us of everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Little Mix.

It’s to be seen whether Cole’s song will be a hit, but her position as a returning judge on the show should help with promotion.
