‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 10 (finale) spoilers: An Emilia Clarke teaser
Before we arrive at the “Game of Thrones” finale Sunday night, there is one more story that we have to discuss here regarding the future for Emilia Clarke’s Dany.
First of all, let’s start by saying that we are a fan of the character in theory, and have been since the beginning. But when was the last time we really saw Dany have a huge moment on the show? We suppose sending away Jorah counts in theory, but her freeing Missandei and the slaves at the start of season 3 counts as that for us. This has been a relatively uneventful seasons for her, and a plodding one since her arrival in Meereen. Emilia Clarke is a gifted actress, but there is only so much that she can do to lift a story that does not have a whole lot of lift on its own.
Is that going to change for the finale? It’s possible that it will, given that Dany is one the precipice of trouble right now for the first time in a very long time. She no longer has a viable #2 in terms of strategy, and we don’t count Daario as being particularly good at anything beyond two things (we’ll let you guess what those are). She has unrest among the cities that she has conquered, and while she may want to move forward and conquer Westeros, it is not going to be a particularly easy thing for her to do. At best, this season ends with her planning a voyage to King’s Landing. At worst, it ends with her watching part of her empire crumble.
Also, where in the world are the dragons right now? Outside of char up an animal, these creatures have barely even existed this year. We know that there is not a whole lot of use for them right now, but why not an extra shot here or there?
We’ll hopefully have some good news for the Dany storyline after the finale airs, and we’ll have more news on that (including a review and some season 5 scoop) over at the link here. Also, be sure to sign up to get further news and updates courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter.
